Everyone knows that airlines have been charging for meals on board for years. So what do we do? We try to curb our hunger pangs before arriving at the airport. Sometimes we are in such a hurry we don’t think about the drawbacks to some of the foods we take in. To keep from bringing upon yourself an unfortunate experience here is a list of the top 5 to avoid.
1. A big greasy hamburger and fries
Do you really want to sit on a long or for that matter short flight after eating one of those? Oh my, the stomach is hurting just thinking about that one! But really the heaviness and all that grease sitting in your belly and not being able to get up and walk around it very hard on your system.
Did you know that chances of a hangover while flying is greater than at any other time? In fact it could actually be worse due to ascending to 35,000 feet in the air and the effects that the altitude has on your body to begin with is tough. If you just have to have one make sure you consume plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Anyone who consumes these little legumes probably gets the idea why you don’t want to eat beans before a flight, but for those who don’t here is a good reason why you shouldn’t. Ever been in an elevator when someone let loose? Think of a plane full of people holding their noses. Embarrassing! Besides that bloating is common when you eat these, do you really want to feel uncomfortable that long? Although beans are very healthy please wait until after the flight to consume.
Another self explanatory reason, bad breath. I have actually been on a 5 hour flight sitting next to someone who must have had garlic for lunch. It was horrible! Every time she wanted to talk I had to turn my head away and when she laughed there was nowhere to hide! Please have consideration for the people you sit next to and keep the garlic for after the flight.
Who would think that an apple can create problems while flying? Haven’t we been told since we were kids “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”? Did you know that apples are hard to digest? It will stay in your in your system for the longest time! A couple of other reasons not to eat apples before a flight is they tend to make you have to pee more and at higher altitudes heartburn.
